At London Fire’s new £20 million Merton ultra modern and high tech call-handling centre in Merton, Skymasts has successfully completed a new complex rooftop antenna system for and on behalf of London Fire Brigade. The system which was designed, supplied and installed by Skymasts, consisted of a multitude of UHF and VHF antennas positioned on a specially designed roof frame enabling precise positioning of each antenna system to offer optimum coverage performance whilst remaining in close proximity to each other.
1.3 kilometres of Eupen EC400 low loss high flex coaxial cable was utilised throughout the system routing from each antenna to 13 specific locations throughout an extremely modern though complex building to desktop dispatcher units. The installation was completion to schedule and within budget.
The Merton call-handling centre which is planned to open by end of 2011 will link up with eight regional centres around the country and is a part of the Government's programme to bring the fire and rescue service up to standard and to deal with major natural disasters and terrorist attacks.
